There is amazing strength in your words and I am grateful for your perspective. I always contend that to win the war within ourselves and to stay strong no matter what obstacles we face is critical to success. You have mastered the hardest lessons of life and emerged triunphant and I, for one, admire that! Your courage inspires me to work even harder to assist my formerly convicted job seekers!

You are so right! It is all about jobs and getting employers to hire. You can throw all the money you want at training, career planning and readying ex-offenders for jobs, but if you can't get companies to give offenders a second chance, what's the point?

This is so true, James. It's unfortunate more employers don't look past the stereotypes to focus more on the bottom line. How do you measure the impact of hiring a really motivated individual whose mistakes have given him or her the wisdom, self-knowledge and motivation to be an extraordinary worker, if that person can't get in the door?

This begs the question: What will happen to all those newly released prisoners? The need for a more holistic approach to not just reentry but to criminal justice practice in this country has never been greater. Releasing prisoners without seriously addressing their legitimate reentry needs amounts to yet another half measure that will only perpetuate the repetitive reactionary swinging of the criminal justice policy pendulum between harsher sentences and relief from those sentences. When will we connect the dots between poor schools, limited economic opportunities, and crime?

Very nice job Jamie. I'm very proud of you and I most certainly will continue to keep up with you and your work. Your reentry touchdown wasn't smooth, nevertheless you now move forward and are showing the community at large that your prison voyage, although harrowing, has molded you into a solid citizen and servant. As one who, like you, spent some years in that prison void, I emplore you to continue in the struggle and be an example many never expect to see and don't think exists - a successful "ex"-offender.
